You actually do not need a referral to see a psychologist, but in order to receive a significant concession, of which most are entitled to, you will need a referral from your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician.

Most people do receive these from their GP. In order to get this referral, let your GP know you are seeking an assessment for a Mental Health Care Plan.

David’s appointment fee for a 50-minute session is $281.30.

The Medicare rebate to see David, a Clinical Psychologist is currently $149.05 per session for 10 sessions.

This will leave you with an out of pocket expense of $132.25.

Katie, Sam, Hugh Ilan and Elizas’ appointment fees for a 50-minute session are $235.

The Medicare rebate to see Katie, Sam, Ilan or Eliza, all Psychologist’s are currently $101.55 per session for 10 sessions.

This will leave you with an out of pocket expense of $133.55.

The amount you are out of pocket varies depending on your situation. Most people are eligible or up to 10 concessional (rebated) sessions via a Mental Health Care Plan (referral from GP).

Additionally, if you have have Private Health Insurance and mental health services as an ‘extra’, please contact your insurance provider and they will likely be able to reduce any out-of-pocket expenses.
